Because of its varied geography and the vast extension
of its virgin territories, Salta is an open invitation
to enjoy adventures. High mountains, hidden
valleys, steep ravines, lush jungles, turbulent rivers,
huge lakes and remote deserts are challenging options
for those people who like extreme sports and nature.
With the exception of snorkeling, paragliding and climbing
(which require some previous practice or preparation) all activities
can be enjoyed by anyone who feels keen to try them.
Horse-riding
Horse-riding excursions, which are intense and pleasant trips,
are one of Salta’s most original and unforgettable attractions.
Their duration depends on the skill and time availability of
visitors. Half-a-day or one-day trips are intended for beginners.
Longer journeys are a completely new experience.
Visitors forget about their watches and change their pace and
rhythm; they learn to appreciate simplicity; they get to know
themselves a little bit better and discover new feelings and
sensations.
Travel agencies offer short trips in San Lorenzo and Coronel
Moldes and longer ones in Guachipas (with visit to painted
caves) and Quebrada del Toro. The most adventurous travellers
can also go to Campo Quijano or the Calchaquí Valleys.
Activities
4x4 Driving: Salta’s geography is ideal for amateur or professional
4x4 journeys. There are circuits in Puna, from Salta
to San Antonio de los Cobres, Tolar Grande or Socompa or
round the Calchaquí Valleys.
Rafting: It is done in two rivers: Juramento (near the city of
Salta, with rapids type II and III, of medium diificulty) and
Lipeo (in the north of the province).
Trekking: There are circuits for both beginner and advanced
trekkers.
Climbing: There are ten mountains in Salta over 6000 metres
above sea level, and many more whose height is over 5000
metres above sea level. For safety reasons, we recommend you
contact a trained guide or get in touch with a climbing group
to organize an excursion.
Other Alternatives: There are many other options: mountainbike
circuits, boogey rides, kite buggy riding, paragliding,
abseiling, free climbing, camping, fishing, caving, kayaking,
canoeing, and birdwatching, among others.
Extreme sports fan can also practice bungee-jumping (in Cabra
Corral Dam), paragliding, abseiling, etcetera. |
